Welcome to #ELTchat

A PLN for ELT Professionals

Welcome to #ELTchat

Hi there, and welcome to the #ELTchat website.  This is the central resource for all things relating to the #ELTchat discussion sessions on Twitter.  Here you’ll find the chance to vote on topics for discussion, check out the archives of previous chat sessions, and read articles by guest bloggers on important themes in the ELT world.

The #ELTchat sessions will be on Wednesdays at 3pm London time and at 9pm London time and will last for an hour. Every Sunday there will be a poll posted on TwitPoll and embedded here on the website where you can vote for the topic that appeals to you most.  We will rotate the top choice each week so that one week the early session gets the first choice and the next week the later session will get the top choice.  That way people in the different time zones will be treated as equally as possible.  Below this article you’ll find the first poll for the our first scheduled chat on Wednesday 15th September.

From time to time we want to invite a guest Tweeter to host a discussion or a Q&A on a subject of their choosing.  More in this in the coming weeks.

But #ELTchat doesn’t begin and end with the discussions – the hashtag is there for anyone who has news and views on the ELT world whenever the need arises.  Simply add it to your tweets and everyone can benefit from your contribution.

If you want to propose a question, then click on the tab at the top of the page and make your suggestion. We welcome all topics for discussion.

Have you got an idea for a way to use #ELTchat then send a message on Twitter to @ELTchat or drop us a line at feedback at this domain name.  We look forward to hearing from you!

  4. […] ELT Chat is a weekly discussion for English Teaching Professionals that happens every Wednesday on Twitter. It is moderated by several incredible teachers located around the world: Marisa Constantinides, Shelly Sanchez Terrell, Berni Wall, Olaf Elch, and Jason Renshaw. If you are a teacher, you ought to seriously consider joining Twitter (if you haven’t already). However, if you aren’t ready to join in the discussions, or they happen at a time that doesn’t work well with your own location, the ELT Chat website keeps archived transcripts of past discussions. One tip: The transcripts are loooong (it is a chat after all!). If you want to see what kind of links were shared during the discussion you can search the page for anything starting with “http” to see links (control key + F opens the search for me in Firefox). The first ELT Chats of the year will be this Wednesday, January 5th. The first chat starts at 3 p.m. London time (what time is this for you?) and will discuss the number one topic (based on member votes). The second chat session starts at 9 p.m. London time (what time is this for you?) and will discuss the second choice topic. […]
