#ELTchat Week 2: What topics would you like to talk about?

A PLN for ELT Professionals

#ELTchat Week 2: What topics would you like to talk about?

#ELTchat was launched this past Wednesday with more than 100 Twitter users participating in the afternoon and evening chats at 15:00 and 21:00 London time.

More than 1000 tweets were sent during these two lively discussions and already there is great anticipation by many who missed the first one and are eagerly looking forward to the second one!

We all have a good feeling about kick off day and need to send a big thank you to all the members of our PLN who participated with great enthusiasm and gave #ELTchat such good vibes.

Blog Posts about the 1st #ELTchat

Two blog posts have already been writter about it!  The first one  was written by Tara Berwell (@tarabenwell on Twitter), an #ELTchatter herself on our first day, who wrote a great post with the title Collaborative Projects for Practising English .

Tara wrote about the experience of following many simultaneous conversations, which is quite normal in a chat of this kind, and is inviting #ELTchatters to build on the topic of the first chat , How to Motivate Students to practise English outside of class, by creating and adding to a list of ideas of collaborative projects to help students practise their English the classroom.

This is fantastic, as the TEFL.net pages and blogs are read by many teachers around the world who might be encouraged to step forward and join us! Thank you, Tara!

The second one,  Participating in ELT chat on Twitter, was posted on Aiden Yeh’s blog (@motherchina on Twitter). Aiden wrote about the experience of following a chat like this, too, and wondered about the possibilities of studying the disourses which emerge, a very interesting research question for researchers in linguistics today.

Please remember:

A transcript of each chat is collected and posted in this blog to

  • give you the opportunity to go back and explore comments or conversation which went by too fast and you feel you missed
  • check back on links which Twitter friends shared but you didn’t have the time to move out of the conversation and follow them up

We look forward to ideas for questions for Week 2!
