    Hi everyone,

    Personally, I’d love to have a chat… let me think…

    – Either about lesson planning (which might be too big a topic)

    …or about

    – Time management for language teachers (how to organize our time between lessons and deal with planning, marking and administrative stuff efficiently)

    What do you think? Anyway, I would be grateful if someone gives a twist to one of these themes to make it sound nicely 😉

    – How to effectively work on poetry in class

    – The use of humor in class [When haha leads to aha]

    – Parental engagement when they do not speak E

    – Non-native teachers are better that native ones since they directly reflect what their students are trying to achieve.

  4. Fabulous to have this PLN to support language learning. Great ideas so far. Here are some other considerations (some of which are beyond the classroom):
    – How do we raise the profile and importance of language learning?
    – Effective elearning strategies to support language learners
    – Where to find just-in-time assistance if you are a new language teacher?
    – Motivating the reluctant language learner
    – How do we cater for diverse language skills and needs?

    I found Bruno’s comment interesting “Non-native teachers are better that native ones since they directly reflect what their students are trying to achieve”. This would form the basis for a great debate.

    I look forward to collaborating with others.

    How about something on students’ self-esteem, self-confidence and sense of identity – parts of the affective filter – and how to use them in our favour, nurture them perhaps? Or how you can ‘humanise’ your classroom and coursebook in a teacher-centred teaching environment (as Barbara mentioned, Japan and area are not really hotbeds of learner-centred teaching. Apologies for the wording!

    I’ve been thinking about homework and YLs recently so something like :

    Why do we give homework? or Is there any point giving homework?

    and I’ve also been thinking about when to start learning English so what about…

    What’s the optimum age for starting to learn English? Is there any truth to the saying “the younger the better”?
