A PLN for ELT Professionals

What would you like to talk about on 16/03/2010?

Hi everyone,

#ELTchat – Two new discussion topics every Wednesday!

We get many questions from new #ELTchat followers who would like to read through previous discussions and summaries contributed by our members of our community so here here is how you can find them:

  1. You can read them here on this blog by clicking on the Summaries category (not tag) and this will call up all the summaries
  2. You can visit the #ELTchat wiki ( work in progress) and click on the Summaries link on the front page which should immediately show you all the summaries we have so far uploaded.

Propose topics for our next #ELTchat

Please post your topics for our next #ELTchat on Wednesday, March 16.

Top choice will be discussed at  12:00 PM. GMT & 2nd choice at  21:00 PM. GMT

Each week we alternate top and second choice.

Find your own local time for each chat here for 12:00 London time and here for 21:00 London time.

Please, include topics which

  • have not been covered already in previous #ELTchats
  • are relevant to ELT teachers and teaching foreign languages
  • are not targeted attacks on individuals or institutions
  • are simply and clearly expressed.

The #ELTchat moderators reserve the right not to post comments or to include them in the poll if they do not follow the above guidelines.

How can we deal with students who are reluctant to speaking in little groups (as opposed to whole class) and always tend to address the teacher instead of other learners ?

How do we draw the class back together after group activities, and what is the next step, what kind of feedback ?

  2. lu_bodeman says:

How to address the issue of English classes being of “less importance” than regular school lessons. Ss don’t take their lessons ‘seriously’ because their school responsibilites and exams always come first.

  3. Anna Pires says:

I don’t know if this topic has been covered yet, but here’s what I’d like to discuss: “How do we cater for the language needs of our learners in this digital age?”

    See ya on Wednesday! 🙂

  4. I have some ideas for topics below and apologies in advance if these have been used before:

    a. M-Learning: How do you use it in class?
    b. One to one teaching: What pedagogic method is best for learners?
    c. Teaching in Difficult Circumstances: What has been your experience and how did you approach your classes?
    d. Teacher observations: A ‘wolf in sheeps clothing’ approach to assess teaching in institutions?

    Many thanks.

  5. Aaron S. Grant says:

Curriculum ideas for a digitally-based EFL course? Curriculum ideas that combine Wiki Spaces, One Note, Blackboard, Twitter, Prezi, blogs, and Facebook?

Just beginning to explore all the connections myself…and discovering that there is enormous potential for creating a powerful digital conglomerate of live-sharing platforms.

    The classroom as a PLN?

  6. Hi Martin

One of your suggestions was covered recently, One-to-one teaching, see the summary here:

    http://eltchat.com/2011/02/18/how-do-you-approach-teaching-one-to-one-lessons-share-strategies-tips-techniques-eltchat-summary-16022011/

I can’t be there live for either ELTchat this week, but watch the topics with interest and check the transcripts later.

    Cheers, Lesley
