Please post your topics for our next #ELTchat on Wednesday, June 8th. Suggestions from last week will automatically be added to this week’s poll but is there anything else that you think might make a good topic for Wednesday’s chat?

Top choice will be discussed at 12:00 PM & 2nd choice at 21:00PM. All times are London times. Please click on the links to find your own local time for each chat.

Each week we alternate top and second choice.

How to choose topics for #ELTchat Discussions

Since we started #ELTchat last September, we have discussed a wide number of topics, but with many new members joining our conversations every week, it is very natural that we will get requests for topics which we “have done”.

Please, include topics which

  • have not been covered already in previous #ELTchats
  • are relevant to ELT teachers and teaching foreign languages
  • are not targeted attacks on individuals or institutions
  • are simply and clearly expressed.

The #ELTchat moderators reserve the right not to post comments or to include them in the poll if they do not follow the above guidelines.

Before you propose a topic, do please check the transcripts index on this blog or go to the #ELTchat wiki and click on the Transcripts or Summaries Links to see what has been covered so far.

If you see your topic but would still like to discuss a different aspect or set of issues, do submit it and we will consider including it again!

We look forward to your suggestions!

Not entirely sure how to word this, but having read @hoprea’s post http://hoprea.wordpress.com/2011/06/03/headed-for-a-catch-22-situation/ – how can we help students to realise the amount of work learning a language requires, without scaring them off? Hope that makes sense!

  2. LizziePinard says:

Creative and effective ways of bringing literature (storybooks, novels, poetry etc etc) into the EFL classroom and using it to enhance the L2 learning process.

  3. Fiona says:

How to keep learners’ (esp YL’s and teens) English going during the summer break ie fun, engaging things they can do by themselves

  4. Script writing for ESP’s – how to make the content ‘sing’.

  5. Milada says:

How to PRESENT new grammar points: different techniques, student engagement, the key elements of effective grammar presentation.

  6. Márcia Lima says:

Really liked the two first suggestions, but loved Fiona’s: How to keep learners’ (esp YL’s and teens) English going during the summer break ie fun, engaging things they can do by themselves. It would be really nice to share tips & sites students can use during the summer break (and throughout the year as well!) to improve/keep their English!

  7. @irishmikeh says:

via @mubeenfk “What avenues can DELTA qualified teachers take apart from DoS/Academic Management?”
My response: How about specialisation (ESP, Business English, etc.) or writing?
@mubeenfk: “or even dealing with special needs (autism, dyslexia and so on..)?”

Unforunately, I won’t be able to make next week’s #ELTchat, but you may like to discuss and develop this topic. I look forward to reading the summary regardless of what the topic is. Enjoy the chat!

  8. @Rober McCall please clarify your question – am not sure what you mean exactly. Could you please give some more detail

    Thanks
