What would you like to talk about on #ELTchat on November 27th?

Voting Time!

TESOL France  2010 was the first international conference where #ELTchat was officially represented and even had a booth at the exhibition! We always have fond memories of this conference!!!

This weekend, TESOL France is holding its 32nd Annual Colloquium and many of the followers and contributors to #ELTchat will be there, either presenting or following the talks. You can view the programme here. TESOL France is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, a great opportunity to be inspired by the talks for new #ELTchat topics!

Suggest a Topic!

If you have an idea for a topic for Wednesday’s chat then leave it as a comment below this post and we’ll include it in the poll once voting starts on Monday.

The top choice in the poll will be discussed at 12.00 p.m. and the 2nd choice at 21.00 p.m. GMT.

Each week we alternate top and second choice.

Don’t just suggest, join #ELTchat!

Please bear in mind that if you are proposing a topic you should try and join the chat if it is chosen (though time zones can make that difficult).

Please also note that the chat moderators do monitor the voting. There have been recent cases of block voting which has skewed and manipulated the polls. In such cases the votes will be disqualified and results of poll will be announced on our blog.

Since we started #ELTchat in September 2010, we have discussed a wide number of topics, but with many new members joining our conversations every week, it is very natural that we will get requests for topics which we “have done”.

Check our summaries page to see if your idea has already been included in a past #ELTchat

Please, include topics which

  • have not been covered already in previous #ELTchats
  • are relevant to ELT teachers and teaching foreign languages
  • are not targeted attacks on individuals or institutions
  • are simply and clearly expressed.

The #ELTchat moderators reserve the right to edit or reword a topic or not to include in the poll if it does not follow the above guidelines.

Before you propose a topic, do please check the  summaries page on this blog or go to the #ELTchat wiki and click on the Transcripts or Summaries Links to see what has been covered so far.

If you see your topic but would still like to discuss a different aspect or set of issues, do submit it and we will consider including it again!

Note sure how to word this, but something like
Reusing student-generated content across skills, for example…
    – students plan and deliver an oral presentation, then use their slides as a plan for a report, or
    – students have a debate and then plan and write a for and against discussion

Feng Shui of the language classroom – its effects on teaching & learning

  3. Aidan @leedsacademy says:

What to say in one-to-one tutorials for low-level (beginner/elementary) learners – realistic goals, expectations.

It’s too late for today’s chat, but I would like to chat sometime about mentoring. How do you mentor other colleagues or other teachers you know? Have you ever tried being mentored yourself? What do you think of having a non-teacher mentor who helps you develop as a professional teacher? (I have checked the eltchat summaries and not found a specific chat about this topic, so hopefully it is fresh)

Mary, There was a chat in January on ‘Mentor teachers’ (those responsible for a team of teachers) and their role; best practices, pitfalls, tips. Summary here:

But I think you’ve suggested a couple of other aspects of a wide topic so I’d be interested in this too.
