Propose a topic, vote in our poll and join our #ELTchat!

If you are proposing a topic, please make every effort to  join the chat if your topic  is chosen.  You can find out information about how to follow an #ELTchat here.

Please also note that the chat moderators do monitor the voting. Cases of block voting are followed up and, in such a case, the votes will be disqualified and results of poll will be announced on our blog.

Since we started #ELTchat in September 2010, we have discussed a wide number of topics, but with many new members joining our conversations every week, it is very natural that we will get requests for topics which we “have done”.

Check out our Summaries & Transcripts Index

Make sure your idea has not already been discussed in the past.

Check our summaries page to see if your idea has already been included in a past #ELTchat.

Here you can find links to all the transcripts and summaries available

Click here to find it or look for it on the pages menu on the right hand side.

If you see your topic but would still like to discuss a different aspect or set of issues, do submit it and we will consider including it again!

Read those great posts which we have collected and make sure you visit the pages of the bloggers who contributed them too!!!!

Please, include topics which

  • have not been covered already in previous #ELTchats
  • are relevant to ELT teachers and teaching foreign languages
  • are not targeted attacks on individuals or institutions
  • are simply and clearly expressed.

Editing your topic

The #ELTchat moderators reserve the right to edit or reword a topic or not to include in the poll if it does not follow the above guidelines.

See you on #ELTchat on Wednesday!!!

Intercultural Communication – what do our learners need to know, and how should we try to teach it?

  2. Anthony Ash says:

I’m not sure what the title would exactly be but I would like to suggest a chat on Dogme – how teachers use it, have they used it successfully? Something along those lines.

  3. Matthew says:

What do you wish you’d learned on your CELTA and/or other teacher training course?

  4. Anthony, if you search for ‘dogme’ on the summaries index page (Ctrl+F) you will see that we have done at least three #ELTchats, if not more, on this topic. Have a look through the summaries and if you can suggest a new angle to the topic, do let us know by replying to this comment. 🙂

  5. Hada says:

Does CELTA need a face-lift/botox? Has it been able to keep up with changing times? Or doesn’t it need to?

  6. ESLBarry says:

I saw KELTchat’s recent chat on critical pedogogy was lively and interesting. There seems to be a lot to say on this topic for teachers around the world. I am not sure on the wording or exact title but something like “Critical Pedagogy and what it means to you” might be a nice idea.

  7. Hada says:

I was at the KELTchat yesterday too and I agree Barry there was loads to say and loads still left to say. They may be thinking of a part 2?? I’d also be interested in debating more on this somewhat ‘philosophical’ borderline ‘political’ topic.

  8. Anthony Ash says:

I’ve checked out the summaries – DOGME has definitely been covered at many angles, so I wouldn’t suggest it for the upcoming ELT Chat. 🙂

  9. Hada says:

Linking words and worlds in the ELT classroom

  10. Please elaborate, Hada?

  11. Hada says:

Sorry Marisa, was out all day, it’s about critical pedagogy. How do we teach English keeping the balance between ‘extending the Ss’ sphere or reference’ and their own cultural identity?

  12. Laila says:

    Hello,

I would like to suggest a topic for a future eltchat “Dealing with Ss frustration in lang learning.”

    Thanks

  13. Hada Litim says:

    Hi Laila,
Tomorrow, we should be posting a new Call for Topics for next week’s #ELTchat. That will probably be the best place to make your suggestion. So look out for the announcement on Facebook and Twitter.
    Cheers
