If you are proposing a topic, please make every effort to join the chat if your topic is chosen. You can find out information about how to follow an #ELTchat here. Please also note that the chat moderators do monitor the voting. Cases of block voting are followed up and, in such a case, the votes will be disqualified and results of poll will be announced on our blog. Since we started #ELTchat in September 2010, we have discussed a wide number of topics, but with many new members joining our conversations every week, it is very natural that we will get requests for topics which we “have done”.

Parents feel that learning is a serious process and that games are not part of it. Parents tend to be ardent supporters of more traditional methods when it comes to acquiring new vocabulary items or grammatical structures such as dictation and copy since this was actually the way they were taught English. Moreover, they tend to be highly opinionated interfering in the teaching process. The same case applies to some school owners who urge their teachers to teach by the book only and cover the corresponding grammar and vocabulary material. How can we explain to both parents and school owners that games are an integral part of the methodological approach spurring the children to learn better and not a waste of time?
