Many thanks to Yitzha for her great summary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">How can we create them for learners\u2019 and make the most of them for their own CPD<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This Wednesday 26\/10\/2011 #ELTChat was moderated by Shaun wilden (@shaunwilden) , Bernadette Wall (@rliberni) and Marisa Constatinides (@Marisa_C) . And the topic was E-Portfolios. Many of the participants \u2013 including myself &#8211; were very excited to learn more about this topic.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0<strong>electronic portfolio<\/strong>\/<strong>e-portfolio<\/strong>: a collection of electronic evidence assembled, usually on the web.<\/p>\n<p>E-portfolos are ways of storing a students&#8217; work etc throughout their education and on into the workplace .<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An e-portfolio can be<strong> a page, a glogster,<\/strong> or even<strong> a whole website. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The idea of an e-portfolio is that it should include representative samples (best really) of a student&#8217;s output, s<\/strong>uch as text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog\u00a0\u00a0entries, and hyperlinks\u00a0. <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>E-portfolios are both demonstrations of the user&#8217;s abilities and platforms for self-expression.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An e-portfolio can be seen as a type of learning record that provides actual evidence of achievement. The advantage is that students build these as they go along and take them forward from stage to stage &#8211; it&#8217;s a personal document. <strong>A key thing is that the students become accountable and also more responsible for their own evaluation of their growth .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aside from the benefits to the student, an e-portfolio is also a great help for teachers\/institutions who like to keep track on the progress of their students and can provide an efficient means to reinforce shared visions and commitments to its mission.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the benefits:<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"285\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Students<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00bb Showcase their achievements<\/li>\n<li>\u00bb Collect and Reflect their work<\/li>\n<li>\u00bb Share educational and work experience<\/li>\n<li>\u00bb Create dynamic CV<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"266\">\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Teachers \/ Institution<\/strong><\/span><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00bb Collect students\u2019 works for Outcomes Assessment<\/li>\n<li>\u00bb Generate reports<\/li>\n<li>\u00bb Showcase Achievements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A major use of e-portfolios is for the assessment. The e-portfolio does not make the learning process easier especially if you aren\u2019t a tech savvy, but it does make the whole process much more cost-effective.
