Writing a C1 TB right now, so\u2026! Irrespective of age. (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/malachyscullion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">malachyscullion<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Concept Qs and time lines attempt to clarify meaning w\/o metalang. So perhaps it\u2019s a case of not o\u2019complicating ..\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rapple18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rapple18<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>but I WOULD and HAVE used discourse terms like \u2018<em>turntaking\u2019<\/em> rules, and\u00a0<em>tonic stress<\/em>, <em>given<\/em> vs <em>new<\/em> info for\u00a0pronunciation\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marisa_C<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For pron I think it is invaluable to use metalanguage&#8217; definitely\u00a0when Ss realise pronunciation isn\u2019t just about tongue twisters!\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaurgibbons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kaurgibbons<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>\u2248<\/li>\n<li>some metaL is just great vocab &amp; fantastic to teach both linguistic &amp; other meanings, tenor for example\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NewbieCELTA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NewbieCELTA<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Ss helped by sep. tense &amp; aspect, I do that often. Not just metaL, it\u2019s teaching Lang system: req. terms!(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NewbieCELTA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NewbieCELTA<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>\u2248<\/li>\n<li>if we can make metaL \u2018come alive\u2019 and treat it richly, it loses its \u2018boring\/serious\u2019 rep and is..activated!!\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NewbieCELTA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NewbieCELTA<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>That\u2019s the key I think. #metalanguage needs to be made engaging at times \u2013 depends on Ss too\u00a0\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaurgibbons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kaurgibbons<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>\u2248<\/li>\n<li>Some knowledge of metalang useful as a prompt in error correction \u2013 on the spot or delayed\u00a0\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marisa_C<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Absolutely. So I use it\u00a0 if and when students are keen to use it. Irrespective of those who don\u2019t.\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaurgibbons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kaurgibbons<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Often this becomes a learning exchange between students in my experience\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaurgibbons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kaurgibbons<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>I use it as a learning exchange moment. Or group students who want metaL and then they share findings\u00a0\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kaurgibbons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">kaurgibbons<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>LEARNING vs ACQUIRING \u00a0\/ \u00a0EXPERIENTIAL vs SUBJECT<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>of course, learning and acquiring a language are very different things \u2013 prob no need for metalamguage in the latter\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pjgallantry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pjgallantry<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>this could be true Paul if we actually knew if conscious &amp; explicit knowledge of terms helps in lang acquitision\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marisa_C<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>\u2248<\/li>\n<li>new thought: if we consider language as experiential, there is no need for metalanguage: if we consider it as a subject, we do\u2026..\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pjgallantry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pjgallantry<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>e.g., we experience our environment without needing to describe it, but if we study it in class, we need metalang to guide us..\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pjgallantry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pjgallantry<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Absolutely.
