{"id":818,"date":"2011-01-10T11:29:34","date_gmt":"2011-01-10T10:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eltchat.com\/?p=818"},"modified":"2011-01-10T11:29:34","modified_gmt":"2011-01-10T10:29:34","slug":"what-would-you-like-to-talk-about-on-wednesday-january-12th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eltchat.org\/index.php\/2011\/01\/10\/what-would-you-like-to-talk-about-on-wednesday-january-12th\/","title":{"rendered":"What would you like to talk about on Wednesday January 12th?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s #ELTchat got the year started with two great discussions on how to overcome colleagues&#8217; resistance to online professional development and \u00a0on the principles that govern our materials preparation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In response to the chats and the experience of sharing in the discussion and, on that particular day, the moderation of #ELTchat, Paul Braddock &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/bcnpaul1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@bcnpaul1<\/a> on Twitter &#8211; wrote an absolutely marvellous post, called <a href=\"http:\/\/bcnpaul1.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/what-good-idea.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What a Good Idea<\/a>, in which he relates the Theory of the Adjacent Possible to connectivity on the web through social networks, especially Twitter and how it has helped him build his own PLN (Personal Learning Network) and revitilized him as a teacher sending him on a new path to his own professional development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can read about the Theory of the Adjacent Possible <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theoryofmind.org\/pieces\/AAAPT.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here <\/a>where you can also listen to a video talk by its creator, Stuart Kauffman.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then, the <a href=\"http:\/\/reformsymposium.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reform Symposium<\/a> over the weekend took over and there were so many good talks about connecting with other teachers and so many mentions of #ELTchat, we all felt very pleased by the way it is slowly turning into an established channel of communication amongst ELT professionals around the world. The keynote talk, <a href=\"http:\/\/reformsymposium.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/11\/opening-keynote-dr-alec-couros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Why Networked Learning Matters<\/a> by Dr Alec Couros was absolutely amazing and he shared some wonderful links and resources. And do visit the website soon to view sessions &#8211; they have all been recorded!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Podcasts <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As you may have noticed, we have not been able to coordinate our podcasts for the last couple of weeks. Most of you reading these lines will know how busy all moderators have been, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ShellTerrell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@ShellTerrell<\/a> runing the Reform Symposium, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/riberni\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@riberni<\/a> running her<a href=\"http:\/\/www.language-tuition.co.uk\/?atk=392&amp;stx=teacher%20development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> weekly workshop<\/a> for teachers and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@Marisa_C<\/a> preparing <a href=\"http:\/\/reformsymposium.com\/blog\/2010\/12\/13\/marisa-constantinides-professional-development-through-facebook-and-nings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">her talk for the Reform Symposium<\/a> and also getting ready to act as moderator for the <a href=\"http:\/\/village2011.pbworks.com\/w\/page\/31834289\/FrontPage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TESOL EVO 2011 VILLAGE <\/a> course &#8211; a course training FL teachers in Second Life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All this, over and above our normal workload!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We must let our #ELTchat followers know that \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/olafelch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@olafelch<\/a>, our very own resident elk (!)\u00a0has taken a long break from Twitter and so, we have been a little remiss in putting podcasts together as they take quite a bit of time to upload but we hope to be able to resume our podcast activity soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Time for the early #ELTchat <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our team of moderators &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@Marisa_C<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/englishraven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@englishraven<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/riberni\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@riberni <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ShellTerrell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@ShellTerrell<\/a> &#8211; have agreed to change the early time slot from <strong>15:00<\/strong> p.m. GMT (London time) to <strong>12:00<\/strong> GMT (London time) as many of our friends in the Southern hemisphere have most times been unable to attend and most of our colleagues in Europe are still either at work or on the way back home from work.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, starting from \u00a0this Wednesday, January 12th, the <strong>new time will be 12:00<\/strong> and the main moderators for that time slot will be <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/englishraven\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@englishraven<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Marisa_C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">@Marisa_C<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The second #ELTchat of each Wednesday will still go on at <strong>21:00 p.m. GMT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So, What would you like to talk about on Wednesday?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fired up with all these great discussions over the past week, I am hopeful you will come up with some great topics for discussion on the upcoming #ELTchats this coming Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please post a topic in the comments.
