Maybe we should start with a definition &#8211; What is Project-Based Learning?<a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/BTpfvXL2QF\">https:\/\/t.co\/BTpfvXL2QF<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u2014 Fiona Price (@fionaljp) <a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/fionaljp\/status\/1105910429392556032?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2019<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Katherine defines Task-Based Learning and then defines Project-Based Learning by comparing the two approaches. Both take the task as the central focus and both are learner-centred approaches. \u00a0She suggests that PBL could be considered as being even more learner-centred as the task is extended beyond the lesson (<em>and possibly beyond the classroom<\/em>) for a specified length of time &#8211; possibly the duration of the course, the term or the academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">@jonjoTESOL asked whether PBL is simply practising the language as opposed to learning the language and @patrickelt responded by saying:\u00a0&#8216;Some models have a language learning focus post task and I think this can work. By doing the task, learners can see the gap between what they wanted to do and what they needed to do so may be more receptive to language focus.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Arguments for PBL<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">@jonjoTESOL quoted John Dewey as an argument for PBL:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">An argument for PBL:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">John Dewey: &#8220;education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself\u201d &#8211; love that! <a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/eltchat?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#eltchat<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\">\u2014 Jonjo Murphy\u062c\u0648\u0646\u062c\u0648 (@jonjoTESOL) <a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jonjoTESOL\/status\/1105915553816952832?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2019<\/a><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">PBL can bring life into the classroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">See <a style=\"color: #333399;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teachingenglish.org.uk\/article\/tbl-pbl-two-learner-centred-approaches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Katherine Bilsborough&#8217;s post<\/a> \u00a0for more advantages of this approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">Possible Problems<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The following specific aspects of PBL were mentioned as being possibly problematic:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #333399;\">The teacher&#8217;s role<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333399;\">An extended timeframe<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><span style=\"color: #333399;\">I feel TBL has a wee bit more input from the teacher at the start.
