Please bear in mind that if you are proposing a topic you should try and join the chat if it is chosen (though time zones can make that difficult).

Since we started #ELTchat in September 2010, we have discussed a wide number of topics, but with many new members joining our conversations every week, it is very natural that we will get requests for topics which we “have done”.

Learning Orientated Assessment (LOA) is a new term that puts learning at the heart of all forms of assessment. A great many people argue for the need to realign our view of assessment by challenging familiar distinctions between “summative” and “formative” assessment. How does assessment data can be used to profile and monitor learners’ progress, informing teacher decision-making and planning and enabling students to engage in focused self-study?
Is that midday or midnight, UK time. At midday I”ll be teaching, but if it’s midnight I can join in at 7am Vietnam time.
Martin – that’s midday I’m afraid. The week after we’ll be chatting later, if that suits you better.
I’d like to discuss whether online CPD is a valid as face to face, especially if you don’t have a certificate to prove it.
The first time I used assistive technology with and ELL in a school I was told it is for the special education students, not ELL. That was a few years ago and I am hoping that thinking is passe now. I have been using word prediction, graphic organizers, text to speech software and even speech to text software with ELL and it has been very helpful. I am looking for opportunities to share this experience with others but not many people are using assistive technology with ELL. Recently became Google Qualified and finding there are SO many helpful tools like TextHelp which is a free extension. Listening to text read aloud with the words highlighted really benefits these students and adults…check it out.
Janet. @JanetRagan1 – presume ELL means English language learners and Google Qualified is like ‘Google Certified Teacher’.. Would you be able to take part in the chat if your topic were to be chosen?
