ELTchat Review – Measuring oral improvement and dealing with shy students

This week the chat sessions focused on two tough subjects – the most popular topic in the poll was how to deal with quiet or shy students. This is obviously a critical area in language learning as any reluctance to speak is going to have a major effect on progress.  Cecilia Coelho joined us with her views on the session.  The second topic looked at measuring oral improvement – also a subject with entrenched schools of thought.  David Dodgson spoke to us about his experiences.

This week also sees the introduction of two new features to the show. Each week we will pick out a blog post which is good for debate and suggest you read it and comment on it.  To get the ball rolling, we’ve highlighted Ken Wilson’s post on reading out loud. The discussion has already started and is certainly food for thought for any ELT professional. You can read the article and comments here.

The second feature is a weekly tip about a web tool that can help the busy teacher.  This week’s tip is writecomics.com – a useful tool for making tailor-made graphics

Happy listening!
